Offered through Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH), the evidence–based Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a year-long class designed to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. It is estimated that 1 in 3 American adults and 14% of Chaffee County residents are pre-diabetic but don’t know it. Having pre-diabetes means your blood glucose (sugar) level is higher than normal but not high enough yet to be diagnosed with diabetes. Type 2 diabetes raises your risk for heart disease, stroke, blindness, amputation and kidney failure. This program supports at-risk individuals to lose 5-7 % of their body weight by building up to 150 minutes/week of physical activity and tracking food intake. Call CCPH at 539-4510 to see if you qualify for these free classes.
