Colorado Mountain College in Chaffee County offers a variety of for-credit college courses in Buena Vista and Salida. Students can complete credits towards CMC degrees or transfer credits to other colleges and universities. Colorado Mountain College also provides GED prep and ESL courses in Salida. Non-credit community education classes are also offered throughout the year at both locations.

I have been I a Certified TRAGER Practitioner since 1994. TRAGER is a type of bodywork/movement education modality that uses gentle passive movement. A typical session is 1.5 hours and moves all the joints of the body. Self-care movements are also taught.
The Child Passenger Safety Program is part of Chaffee County Public Health. We offer free car seat checks with a certified technician. We also offer car seat safety classes multiple times per year where Chaffee County residents will receive a free car seat. Founded in 2009, the Chaffee County Breastfeeding Coalition (CCBC) is a volunteer organization comprised of community nurses, public health officials, midwives, mental health providers, child birth educators, La Leche League Leaders, nutritionists, lactation consultants, lactation counselors, and mothers who have led the way for 92% of Chaffee infants to initiate breastfeeding. The coalition works closely with the Chaffee County Public Health and Environment, Early Head Start, Nurse Family Partnership and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) to reach populations which have historically had low breastfeeding rates.

“A nurse in the home helping your family achieve a healthy start” Healthy Start is a service provided to all families in Chaffee County. Through this program we serve new families (birth through 12 months) regardless of income and number of children. We feel we have something to offer every family, regardless if it is their first or fifth child. The nurse home visitor meets with the family in their home on an average of 10 times (twice prenatally, within the first week of the infant’s life, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 10-12 weeks, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 1 year). We can schedule additional appointments with the family as needed. The services in this program include: breastfeeding education and support, what to expect in the early days, safe sleep, depression screening and referral, Bright Beginnings, normal newborn behavior, developmental milestones, car seat inspections, Cavity Free at 3, community resources, nutrition, exercise, birth control, immunizations, infant safety, tobacco cessation education and assistance and solid food introduction among many other topics.
